The Potter County Sheriff’s Office continues to provide weekly updates on the population of the Potter County Detention Center. This week, the overall inmate population has decreased, with 602 inmates currently under Potter County custody, compared to last week’s total. Of those inmates, 550 are currently housed in the Potter County Detention Center at 13,100 Northeast 29th Avenue, with the remaining inmates housed in other facilities. While daily population numbers can fluctuate due to bookings, releases, transfers, court proceedings, and other factors, these weekly reports are intended to provide the public with a transparent snapshot of the current detention population.
The Jail population includes inmates who are referred to as “11D inmates.” This refers to Article I, Section 11d of the Texas Constitution, which provides a legal process through which certain defendants accused of serious violent or sexual felony offenses may be denied bail pending trial when the required legal standards are met. These individuals may remain in custody pending trial, which can contribute to both the daily jail population and the long-term detention population. As of last Friday, the Potter County Detention Center had a total of 73 inmates classified as 11D inmates.
